FFVII: Potential Rebirth or Conspiracy Theory?

January 31st, 1997; a day that shall be forever remembered in video game history. Why? Because in America, the greatest RPG of all time was released on the Playstation.

Final Fantasy VII

IGN’s Rating: 9.5 out of 10

I was five when I first laid eyes on this magnificent creation, and I was hooked almost instantly.

In my eyes, this was, still is, and always will be, the greatest video game of all time. The storyline is moving, the soundtrack is brilliant, you fall in love with each character the minute you are introduced and mourn them when they are lost as if they had actually existed… I could go on and on about this. But there are enough blogs and articles out there singing FFVII’s praises, and I can’t imagine there are a lot of you out there who don’t already know what this game is, so I won’t delve in too deeply with the things that have already been said.

Instead, I will be addressing the infamous question of whether or not this game should be remade.

First of all, I am just like you; I’ve been teased and taunted with a remake for years now, and at first, I was all for it. I couldn’t wait to see updated versions of my beloved Cloud, Aeris, Red XIII, and Cid, and I was completely willing to devote myself to as many sleepless nights as it took to kick an HD Sephiroth’s ass. But as time went on, it became more apparent that the persistant rumors regarding a remake were just that: rumors. Nothing more.

Square’s producers came out on multiple occasions mentioning various issues with rebirthing this classic RPG, one of the more widely known reasons being it would take a ridiculous amount of time to do (approximately 3 or 4 times longer than it took to make FFXIII).
