Today, a teaser for the actual trailer of a movie came out (a ridiculous thing that exists in our day and age saddens me), but this time the remake is of the classic sci-fi thriller Total Recall that originally stared Arnold Schwarzenegger and premiered in 1990.  The new and “improved” remake stars Collin Firth as the lead character and with a release date for the actual movie yet to be announced. The thirty odd seconds of film shown in the teaser it looks like it will follow a similar story line with better special effects than the original, but I have mixed feelings about this remake.  The part of me that loves new movies and all the action-y movies of Colin Firth have me hopeful, but movie industry history has me worried… and my worry far out ways my hope. With the remakes of two other sci-fi classics; War of the Worlds and The Day the Earth Stood Still scalded into my brain by making a mockery of the originals.  Hollywood’s re-licensing of old beloved movies hasn’t gone well, and I don’t think it will anytime soon, but final judgment on (I have breathless suspense) and partial indifference will have to wait for the full Movie to appear.
